On a recent visit to Russia we brought back some of the most expensive honey in the world! It is wild mountain honey collected from the Burzyan region of Bashkortostan. The honey is completely untouched and unfiltered, when put in a jar it is a mixture of honey, bee bread and nest debris, nothing is removed.
It is gathered from nests high up within the trunks of pine trees, the beekeeper uses a simple rope harness to climb anything up to 15 metres to access a nest. Only small quantities of honey are produced each season by the pure wild European black bee colonies, being scarce and difficult to harvest makes this deliciously healthy honey a luxury item with a price tag of up to £200 per kilo.
